“PET” peeve of plastics?
We agree! Plastic products take hundreds of years to naturally degrade in the environment, and with the rise of global plastic production, tackling the issue of plastic pollution is a more pressing concern than ever.
HOWEVER, scientists recently derived and combined two enzymes, PETase and MHETase, from separate strains of bacteria that can break down plastics in a matter of DAYS!
This recent discovery is an exciting installation of hope for the health of the environment and we look forward to seeing it integrated into commercial recycling very soon.
